Join us for a special screening of the acclaimed documentary "Ballad on the Shore" on December 16 at 7:00 pm. Directed by Ma Chi Hang, this film explores the fading world of Hong Kong’s fishermen through the poignant ballads of Lai Lin-shau, one of the last masters of this unique oral tradition.

On the small island of Tap Mun, generations of fishermen have sung ballads that reflect the rhythms of the sea and the hardships of life at sea. As the fishing community dwindles and younger generations move ashore, these songs are at risk of being lost forever. "Ballad on the Shore" captures the beauty and melancholy of this vanishing culture, offering a powerful testament to the resilience and spirit of Hong Kong’s fishing heritage.

The film has received multiple awards for its ethnomusicological and cultural preservation value. The screening will be followed by a sharing and Q&A session with the audience. Don’t miss this moving journey into the heart of Hong Kong’s coastal traditions.

芝加哥大學香港校園將於12月16日晚上7時舉辦紀錄片《岸上漁歌》放映會。導演馬智恆透過這部影片，深入探討香港漁民的漁歌傳統，記錄了漁歌歌者黎連壽先生的故事。在這個小島上，幾代漁民以歌聲傳承海上生活的艱辛與詩意。隨著漁村人口減少，年輕一代陸續上岸，這些珍貴的漁歌面臨失傳。《岸上漁歌》捕捉了這份即將消失的文化，以細膩的鏡頭和動人的旋律，見證香港漁村文化的韌性與精神。

本片曾獲多項民族音樂與文化保存獎項。放映結束後，將設有分享及問答環節。
