UChicago NEXUS Travel Grant 2026-2027

The University of Chicago Hong Kong campus is pleased to announce its UChicago NEXUS Travel Grant for 2026-2027. University of Chicago PhD alumni teaching and researching at universities or working at an NGO or think tank who are planning to travel to Hong Kong for field or archival research are invited to apply for short-term research funding. The research conducted need not focus on Hong Kong, but the applicants should explain why it would be beneficial for the project to engage with the UChicago Hong Kong campus.

The grant provides an award of up to US$ 3,000 to support the travel expenses of awardees to Hong Kong. Office space will be provided for use when available at the UChicago Hong Kong campus. Awardees may be requested to participate in public events hosted by the UChicago Hong Kong campus if mutually agreed.
 

University of Chicago Ph.D. alumni who are:

  • An active faculty member at a university or academic institution in Asia, or working at an NGO or think tank in Asia, and
  • Planning to travel to Hong Kong for field study or archival research

Preference will be given to proposals that:

  • Demonstrate why traveling to Hong Kong is beneficial to the research project
  • Build connections with academia, institutions, and/or organizations in Hong Kong, East or Southeast Asian region
  • Bring in cost-sharing funds from the affiliated organization/university
  • Hold activities at or directly engage with the UChicago Hong Kong campus
  • Maximum Request: US$ 3,000
  • Funding Period: November 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027.
  • Disbursement: Funding will be transferred to the awardee as a lump sum.
  • Award Notices: October 2026
  • Post-award Support: UChicago Hong Kong campus will assist with logistics (as applicable).
  • If prior to the disbursement of funds, the awardee is no longer eligible to receive this funding, please inform Angela Siu of the UChicago Hong Kong campus (angelasiu@uchicago.edu) immediately.
  • For full terms, please refer to the Grant Agreement should the proposals be selected.

Interested alumni faculty should submit a proposal with the template enclosed to Angela Siu of the UChicago Hong Kong campus (angelasiu@uchicago.edu) with a completed budget (template) by October 15, 2026.

Following completion of travel, awardees will be requested to complete an outcome survey.
