Description:

Taylor Swift, one of the biggest names in showbiz today, has become a cultural whirlwind, spinning catchy anthems that resonate globally. From empowering lyrics to surprise album drops, she’s turned fans into a fierce community. Whether it’s breaking streaming records or influencing fashion, Swift’s magic knows no borders.

With the Eras Tour kicked off in March 2023, Swift’s fame reached new heights. Around 11 million tickets have been sold for 152 shows in 22 countries as of June 2024, making the Eras Tour the highest-grossing tour in music history.

Swift’s influence is not confined to music and economies but spans culture, gender, race, and politics. Her willingness to address societal issues like racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and her political stance make her a powerful voice for change.

Swiftie or not, we welcome everyone to join our program, where our Taylor Swift scholar, Professor Paula Harper from the Music Department at the University of Chicago, will discuss Swift’s impact on music, fandom, culture, economies, politics, and more.
