The 2024 U.S. presidential election is guaranteed to be the election that defines the United States for generations to come.
Join five of UChicago’s leading political science faculty for four unique events hosted by the UChicago Hong Kong campus this fall.
Our Faculty Lead for this series, Robert A. Pape, Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, specializes in international security affairs. In our first episode, Professor Pape will deliver a UChicago-style lecture on the increase in violent populism in America. The second episode will deliver a presentation and discussion between Professor Paul Poast, Associate Professor of Political Science and Deputy Dean of Doctoral Education, and Professor Robert Gulotty, Associate Professor of Political Science. They will discuss the geopolitical and economic implications of the election, including international relations, governance and trade, tariff, and many other economic issues. In our third episode, Professor Molly Offer-Westort and Professor Ruth Bloch Rubin will discuss disinformation in American political elections from a statistical as well as congressional party-power perspective. Finally, one month after the U.S. Presidential votes have been cast, all of our professors will rejoin the UChicago Hong Kong campus for a final episode to discuss the implications of the final election result and the resilience of American democracy.
The 2024 Presidential Election series will help our global audience learn more about what to expect from the democratic process as Americans head to the voting booth in early November and analyze how the results may impact all of our lives.
